The first and only one of its kind in the region, the Advanced Prostate Cancer Institute at Urologic Specialists is dedicated solely to men with advanced prostate cancer and their specific health care needs.
Advanced prostate cancer differs from the more common localized prostate cancer because it occurs outside the prostate (metastatic) and does not respond to first-line hormone treatment. Advanced prostate cancer is most often a recurrence of prostate cancer. It occurs when prostate cancer cells spread to other parts of the body like the bones, lymph nodes, liver, or other organs. In recent years, new treatments have been approved to treat advanced prostate cancer.
A specialized team of urologic oncologists, surgeons and nurse navigators work together to provide personalized cancer care while providing support for the patient and their family from the time of diagnosis through treatment and follow up.
While there is not yet a cure for the disease, there is great hope. Groundbreaking treatments can help control the cancer, reduce symptoms, improve, and maintain quality of life and extend survival for advanced prostate patients.
Urologic Specialists provides in-office dispensing for oral oncology medications. This allows us to ensure medications are conveniently accessible and help patients start treatment without delay. Our on-site pharmacy team handles prior authorizations, coordinates with insurance plans, and provides financial assistance resources.
You will be paired with a nurse navigator who will be your main point of contact throughout treatment. Your nurse navigator will provide education, coordinate appointments, assist with paperwork, help manage side effects, and support you every step of the way. Having a consistent person to discuss concerns with and lean on during prostate cancer treatment can make a big difference.
In addition to innovative treatments, our team specializes in managing side effects, assisting with sexual health concerns, and developing individual treatment plans. Our goal is supporting quality of life while battling advanced disease.
